For Attorneys
Homeowner Stewardship Partners provides administrative research, documentation, and filing support in tax-sale excess funds and mortgage-foreclosure surplus matters — alongside, and never in place of, independently retained legal counsel.
Counsel's Responsibilities
When legal representation is needed, these responsibilities belong to the claimant's independently selected attorney.
- Providing legal advice and legal representation to the claimant
- Evaluating the legal merits of a claim and the applicable legal strategy
- Preparing and filing legal pleadings, motions, or petitions as required
- Appearing in court or before the applicable tribunal on the claimant's behalf
- Advising the claimant on rights, risks, and obligations under applicable law
HSP's Administrative Capabilities
HSP can support counsel and claimants with the following, in a purely administrative capacity.
- Research to help identify potential tax-sale excess funds or mortgage-foreclosure surplus
- Assembly and organization of supporting documentation
- Coordination of the administrative filing process with the applicable county, court, or trustee
- Communication and status updates with the claimant throughout the matter
- Administrative follow-up on filings already prepared or directed by counsel
A Clear Boundary
HSP is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice or legal representation. When legal services are needed, the claimant independently selects and retains legal counsel. HSP does not receive compensation for attorney referrals or share legal fees. HSP does not direct legal strategy, does not appear on behalf of claimants in legal proceedings, and does not compensate attorneys, or accept compensation from attorneys, for referrals. Where a claimant already has counsel, HSP coordinates administrative work at the direction of that counsel and the claimant.
